Samuel Beeler was born in Virginia around 1760. He enlisted in the Virginia regiment and served with his father, Captain Samuel Beeler. Around 1806, Samuel and his family moved to Kentucky. In the late 1820's, Samuel's son, William, traveled to McLean County and bought land in Dale Township (sec. 3).

In the fall of 1830, William hitched a wagon with three oxen and moved to his farm. Samuel traveled with him. That first winter was brutal and witnessed an unusually large amount of snow. The snow was so deep that farmers sometimes had to find their livestock by looking for the holes in the snow.

Samuel and his wife, Mary Susannah Graves Beeler, had many children, some of whom may still reside in McLean County. Mary died a year after moving to McLean County. Samuel died in 1840.
