In 1940, railroad engineer Gordon Childers was out of town
during the construction of the family home. Thus, his wife, Nellie Burger, made
decisions about the home construction. There were some disagreements about
those decisions. So, Gordon installed the "Had Her Way" sign above
the doorway.
The house is at 707 Dale St. Childers was the son of Gordon Childers, Sr., a state legislator who died in 1966 and lived at 711 Dale St.
