~Revolutionary War Gravesites in McLean County~

Moses was born in Maryland in 1734 and served with the Virginia regiment. After the war, he ended up in Ohio.

Moses later married Catharine Pittman, who was 15 years his junior. In 1830, when Catharine was 70 and Moses was 85, the couple moved from Ohio to Harley's Grove in McLean County. (An October 1976 Pantagraph article states they arrived in 1837 and settled five miles northwest of Wapella).

Moses could have possessed a land grant as a result of his service and used it for land in McLean County. Or, perhaps Moses and Catherine were following one or more of their adult children. At least one of their children, Moses II, was in Illinois. Moses II's son, Ira, supplied Milo Custer with information about his family's background for Custer's book on war veterans buried in McLean County.

The Hougham children had many children. One farm was still in the family as of 1976, and it is likely that many of Moses' descendants still live in McLean County.
